Activity Feed

Use Activity Feed to create a central place for users to engage and stay up to date on what’s happening in their course. 

 Activity Feed Features (Written Description)

To begin to use activity feed:

  • From your course homepage, click the Plus icon to create a post. 
  • When creating a post, you can choose from the following options: Write a Post, Create an Assignment Post, Upload a File, Attach Link to Existing Activity, Attach Weblink, and Google DriveTM or One DriveTM, Attach Video from Web, and Post Later. 
    • Create an Assignment Post allows you to quickly create a new assignment submission folder and link it to your grade book from within the Activity Feed, or link an existing assignment to Activity Feed. 
    • Upload a File allows you to attach a file from your device to a post. 
    • Attach Link to Existing Activity allows you to create a direct link to existing course material and bring it to users’ attention in a prominent location. 
    • Attach Weblink allows you to create a message and attach an external page or video to share with users. 
    • Attach from Google Drive or Attach from OneDrive allows you to quickly attach additional materials that are stored in their respective online storage space. 
    • Attach Video from Web allows you to link to an external video that will display in the feed. 
    • Post later allows you to schedule posts to appear to learners at a specified date and time. 
  • Enter a message to share with learners. 
  • You can use the Allow Comments checkbox to control commenting on a post-by-post basis. 
  • When you are ready, click Post. 
  • Your message displays in Activity Feed. 

 How to Customize Notifications (Written Instructions)

Control how you receive information about Activity Feed happenings by customized your notification preferences.  

To customize your email and SMS notifications for Activity Feed:

  • Click your Personal Menu and select Notifications.
  • To enable notifications, you must set up and verify an email address or mobile number. 
  • Navigate to Instant Notifications. 
  • Select the preferred method of contact you want to receive for each notification. 
  • When you are ready, click Save. 
  • In addition to SMS and email notifications, you will automatically receive minibar update alerts when a new post or comment is made.  

 How to Create and Share New Assignments Using Activity Feed (Written Instructions)  
To create a new assignment and link it to your grade book using Activity Feed:
  • Click the Plus icon to create a post and click Assignment.
  • Enter a title, instructions, and due date for the assignment. 
  • Specify the submission type using the submission type menu. 
  • If you have supplementary materials, add them to the assignment by selecting Attach. File options include File Upload, Attach from Existing Content, Weblink, Google Drive™, OneDrive™, and Video from Web.  
  • To add the new assignment to your grade book, click Add to Grades. Note: This can only make numeric grade items. 
  • Adjust the Max Points for the assignment as necessary. 
  • When you are ready, click Post. 
  • The new assignment post displays and tracks the number of assignments submitted by learners.
